Professor P.S.M. Gunaratne

Professor P. S. M. Gunaratne, Professor in Finance, has held eminent positions in a number of premier national organizations dealing with education and higher education. Prior to assuming the charge of the Office of the Vice Chairman-University Grants Commission (UGC), Professor Gunaratne served as Head-Deparment of Commerce (University of Colombo), Coordinator-Postgraduate and Mid-Career Development Unit of the Faculty of Management and Finance (University of Colombo), Dean-Faculty of Management and Finance (University of Colombo), Member of the Governing Board-University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC), Member of the Governing Council-National Institute of Business Management (NIBM), Member of Governing Council-National Institute of Education (NIE), Board member of the National Human Resources Development Council, Member of the Academic Affairs Board of the School of Postgraduate Studies – Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA).

Professor Gunaratne holds a B.Sc (Hons) Business Administration Degree from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He is a recipient of the prestigious Japanese Government MONBUKAGAkAGAKUSHO scholarship under which he completed a M.Sc. (Finance) and a PhD (Finance) at the Tsukuba University (Japan).

A recipient of the Commonwealth Postdoctoral Fellowship (UK), Professor Gunaratne was a Visiting Fellow at the Institute of the Development Finance, University of Manchester (UK). He is also a recipient of fellowship the Japanese Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) under which he served as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Yokohama National University, Japan.
