Premakumara de Silva is the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and is a Senior Professor of Sociology and Anthropology at the Department of Sociology, University of Colombo. Prof. de Silva also an Honorary Research Professor at Deakin University, Australia and a Senior Research Fellow at University of Birmingham, UK.He has held administrative positions including First Deputy Vice-chancellor of University of Colombo, Senior Student Counselor, Head of Department and Director of Government Institutions. |
| He has published a number of books, book chapters andover forty articles in English with reputed international publishers and has also published in local languageson his credit. He has won several prestigious international fellowships including British Academy/ESRC, American Academy of Religion, Sir Radcliffe-Brown and Sir Raymond Firth Fellowship of Royal Anthropological Institute in UK, Sir Ernest Cassell Educational Trust merit Award of University of Edinburgh, and Wenner-Gern Foundation Award for anthropological Research in New York.
In 2016, Prof. de Silva won the Vice Chancellor’s award for the best researcher in the Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo and 2016 & 2017 Senate awards for research excellence. Most importantly, in 2018 he won the CVCD (Committee for Vice Chancellor’s and Directors) excellence award for the most outstanding senior researcher in the field of Humanities, Aesthetic and Social Sciences in Sri Lanka.In 2018 Prof. de Silva won the State Literary Awardfor the best academic Booktranslation. |
