Calling applications for UGC – Griffith University, Australia (GU) Full/Joint PhD Scholarship programme 2022


 Griffith University, Australia(GU) and the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka (UGC) has entered into MoU with the objective of obtaining mutual benefits from scholarly interaction, cultural interchange, cooperative research and other forms of academic collaboration.

Griffith University will cover the full cost of Tuition fees for a period up to 3 years while, within the limits approved by the UGC for Australia, UGC will provide candidates with a living stipend and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), for a period of 3 years. Griffith will provide up to 12 International Postgraduate Research Scholarships per year.

 

Candidates who are attached to universities and HEIs under UGC and entitled for paid study leave for the purpose of higher studies are eligible to apply for the above Scholarship programme. Applications of the successful candidates who are shortlisted by the UGC will be sent to Griffith University for evaluation. Selection made by the Griffith University will be followed by a Selection Interview conducted by the UGC.

Joint PhD Model

 

Joint PhD program supervision arrangements for UGC supported candidates from any one the following four universities and other Sri Lankan universities are encouraged, subject to final approval by all parties:

  

  • University of Colombo
  • University of Kelaniya
  • University of Peradeniya
  • University of Sri Jayewardenepura

 

-          Candidates will remain enrolled at Griffith University, including during approved periods away or remote candidature in Sri Lanka, and in accordance with the relevant policies at each university.

 

-          Candidates will be supervised by staff from Griffith University and by staff from the University in Sri Lanka. Each candidate must have at least one supervisor from the University in Sri Lanka and two supervisors from Griffith University.

 

-          Adequate research facilities, resources and administrative support must be in place at each University to ensure that candidates can successfully complete their PhD research within the designated timeframe.

Applicants should follow the Guidelines for UGC Postgraduate Grant Schemes and submit their duly filled application along with the Project Proposal and work plan to the Vice Chairman, University Grants Commission, No 20, and Ward Place, Colombo 07 through proper Channel. Applicants are requested to email said documents to dric@ugc.ac.lk in advance.
