ESTABLISHMENT OF STAFF DEVELOPMENT UNITS IN UNIVERSITIES
The University Grants Commission at its 628th meeting held on 20th February 2003 has decided that Staff Development Units should be established at each University. Such Units will be responsible for the training of Academic, Administrative and Non-academic Staff attached to the Universities, Campuses and Institutes which are a part of the University system.
The Staff Development Unit shall be headed by a Director who shall be a Teacher of the category of Senior Lecturer and above, appointed by the Council of the respective University, on the recommendation of the Vice-Chancellor, for a period of up to three years. However, he will be required to carry out limited teaching functions in addition to his duties as Director of the Unit.
The University shall provide such support facilities such as infrastructure and staff that may be deemed necessary.
The Director of the Staff Development Unit shall be paid an allowance on the following basis in addition to their normal emoluments.
- For a Staff less than 1000 in number Rs. 1500 /- p.m.
(Academic, Administrative and Non- Academic) - For a staff from 1001 to 1500 in numbers Rs. 2500 /- p.m.
(Academic, Administrative and Non- Academic) - For a staff 1501 and above Rs. 4000 /- p.m
(Academic, Administrative and Non-Academic)
The provisions of this Circular will be effective from 1st January 2003.
