INCENTIVES TO STAFF OF THE HIGHER EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS
Your kind attention is invited to Commission Circular No. 483 of 03rd August 1991 on the above subject.
The University Grants Commission at its 617th meeting held on 13th September 2002 decided that the academic year 2001/2002 be reckoned as two years for the purpose of calculating Sabbatical leave entitlement. Eligibility will be determined as follows:
(a) Academic Year 2001/2002 (b) Eligible Higher Educational Institutions/Institutes

- All Universities except Open University of Sri Lanka .
- Vavuniya, Sri Palee and Trincomalee Campuses.
- Institute of Aesthetic Studies, Institute of Indigenous Medicine, Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute
- University Grants Commission.
(c) Eligible StaffTeachers/Officers who are holding the posts entitled for sabbatical leave in the year 2002 and have participated in clearing the backlog of the academic programme where August 2000 G.C.E. (A/L) students were admitted by October 2001. This facility will be given to the teachers/officers who serve at least two years during the period from October 2001 to September 2005. (September 2006 in the case of Medical Faculty teacher/officers)
The other provisions applicable to granting sabbatical leave will continue to operate where they are not inconsistent with the provisions of this Circular.
