IMPLEMENTATION OF MODULAR SYSTEM AND COMMON CALENDAR FOR ALL UNIVERSITIES
The University Grants Commission at its 758th meeting held on 23rd June 2008 decided to fix common days for the commencement and the end of the academic programmes of all universities with effect from the next academic year [2009], which could be repeated for the subsequent academic years.
Accordingly, the new entrants must be admitted to the University/HEI in the last week of May each year. The Calendar of dates to follow should be;
-
- Start academic year in the last week of August
- End academic year in the last week of May
- Long vacation to be from last Saturday of May to penultimate Sunday of August
- Orientation programme for new entrants should be held during long vacation
Faculties should decide the academic year plan based on semesters/terms
The Commission also decided that the academic year should not be stretched under any circumstances and the delays in admission of students, if any, or any disruption to academic programmes due to any unforeseen reason should be absorbed by shortening the orientation progrmme and the vacations respectively.
Please take action accordingly.
This Circular shall come into effect from 1st September 2008.
