PAYMENT TO ADMINISTRATION OFFICERS WORKING ON HOLIDAYS

This Circular (Paragraph 2C) has been amended by Circular No : 707

The University Grants Commission at its 386th meeting held on 25th May 1993 considering the Public Administration Circulars regarding the rates of payment to administrative officers working on holidays, has approved the following revised rates of payment to administrative officers of the Commission, Higher Educational Institutions/Institutes and Affiliated University Colleges for attending to any urgent duties as stipulated in Public Administrative Circular 305 of 5th September 1985.

1) 1/40 of the officer's consolidated monthly salary for a minimum of 4 hours of work.

2) 1/20 of the officer's consolidated monthly salary for a minimum of 8 hours of work.

The Commission also has decided that the above rates of payment should be paid subject to the following conditions:

(a) The staff officer concerned should have been in attendance in office on 05 consecutive working days prior to the week­end and public holidays on which he proposes to work to be eligible to receive payment. Those officers who are unable to attend office for 5 consecutive days, but work on weekends or public holidays will be entitled for lieu leave for such working days

(b) The officer will be required to work a minimum of 4 hours on a weekend or other public holiday to be eligible for the holiday payment.

(c) That an officer's monthly payment for working on holidays should not exceed 25% of his consolidated monthly salary

Consolidated Monthly Salary = Excluding Backlog Clearing Allowance, Language Proficiency Allowance, Allowances paid in terms of Commission Circular 564.

(d) The principal executive officers should excercise strict control regarding attendance, quality and quantity of work done

(e) The staff officer concerned should obtain prior approval of the Chief Executive Officer on a recommendation made by the Head of Department/supervising officer to work during week-ends and public holidays and the Chief Executive Officer should satisfy himself regarding the need for such workThe revised rates of payment are effective from 1st June 1993.

The Commission Circular Nos. 454 dated 17th October 1990 and 501 dated 2nd December 1991, are hereby rescinded.
