DEFINITION OF ACADEMIC YEAR FOR THE PURPOSE OF RETIREMENT OF UNIVERSITY TEACHERS
Your attention is invited to section 73 of the Universities Act.No.16 of 1978 regarding the retirement of University Teachers.
The University Grants Commission at its 457th meeting held on 27th October 1995 having taken into consideration the observations made by the Committee of Vice-chancellors and Directors has taken the following decision.
All Universities/Colleges/Institutes should, on the commencement of each academic year, decide the calendar of dates for the succeeding academic year so that a planned schedule is available for two academic years at any given time. The dates of retirement of teachers should be determined on the basis of the academic years so decided. Any unscheduled deviation from the planned academic years on account of factors such as student problems should not affect the determination of the retirement dates.
All Universities /Colleges/Institutes are kindly requested to determine the acadamic year on the above basis for the purpose of retirement of teachers as stipulated in section 73 of the Universities Act, No .16 of 1978.
