PROVISIONS TO GRANT PERMISSION TO SERVE AS
A MEMBER OF PROVINCIAL COUNCIL


The University Grants Commission at its 774th meeting held on 19.02.2009 decided that, any employee who falls under the category of an officer under Article 91(1)(d)(viii) of the Constitution, Section 3(a) of the Provincial Councils Act No. 42 of 1987 and Section 9 of the Provincial Councils Elections Act No.02 of 1988 shall not be qualified to be elected as a member of a Provincial Council or to sit and vote in the Provincial Council as a member thereof.

Hence such an employee has to resign from the substantive post before being elected as a member of a Provincial Council under the above mentioned Provisions of the Constitution and relevant Acts.
